On February 17th, 2009, President Obama signed into law a new economic stimulus plan. Included in the new plan is a generous tax credit program for first time home buyers.  Some important details of the program are as follows:

• Home owners who have not owned a home in the past three years are also eligible.
• The Home must be purchased between January 1, 2009, and December 1, 2009.
• The tax credit would amount to 10% of the home’s purchase price, up to $8,000 maximum.
• The tax credit does not need to be paid back as long as you continuously own and occupy the home for at least three years.
• You can claim the tax credit on your 2008 tax return by filing a one page IRS amendment form.
